Environmental Print

Here at Orchard Press we care about where our paper comes from and how our print processes affect the environment, and because of this we are very selective in the stock we buy, and how we run our business. Our Environmental Policy is available to download.

With our certification achievements you can be assured that your choice will guarantee that future generations will be able to enjoy the benefits of the forest. But print should not be seen as the ecological black sheep of the marketing mix family.  It has comparable green credentials.  Print and paper is the most environmentally sustainable way to communicate as it is based on a truly renewable and recyclable raw material.

  • We recycle 90% of our waste
  • All our ink is vegetable based and sourced from the UK and Europe
  • We no longer use alcohol in our print processes
  • We work with reputable paper suppliers to offer a range of paper options from sustainable sources
  • We have achieved FSC®, PEFC and ISO certifications
  • We are one of the first print company’s to be using processless plates
  • We have a power converter to convert high energy to low and consume less power
  • We use as many non-voc products as possible
  • We have worked towards a reduction of chemical and emissions
  • There is an active plan for waste minimalisation
  • We have recently installed a paper trim/waste extractor which has cut the visits Printwaste make from twice a week to twice per month, reducing the impact of emissions.

Environmental Certifications

FSC – Forest Stewardship Council

The FSC endorsement guarantees the trees that are harvested are replaced or allowed to regenerate naturally and that parts of forests are preserved entirely in order to protect rare animals and plants. The FSC also ensure that forest owners use local workers and provide training, safety equipment and decent salaries.  FSC is the only wood certification scheme endorsed by major environmental charities including WWF, Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace and the Woodland Trust.

PEFC – Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes

The PEFC is made up of several different national forest certification schemes.  They build upon the promotion of sustainable forest management, which is supported by 149 governments covering 85% of the world’s forest areas.  The scheme accounts for more than 200 million hectares of certified forests, producing millions of tonnes of certified timber to the market place.

ISO 14001 – Environmental Management

We were awarded ISO 14001 certification which was a major milestone for the company.  This achievement supports our focus on good working practices with environmental issues so you can be assured of the minimum impact to the environment throughout our printing process.
